East Africa, Russia and Central Asia

In association with EWP you can join a scheduled trip to East Africa, Russia or Central Asia. We can also organise your tailor made expedition to any of these areas or train you in Scotland prior to your trip to give you all the skills you need and much background information to make your trip more enjoyable.

Mt Kenya

Mount Kenya is located on the equator. Magnificent cliffs and glaciers protect the highest peaks of Nelion (5188m) and Batian (5199m). The third highest summit - Point Lenana, (4985m) - is also glaciated but accessible to walkers. We offer year round departures for any route combination and any length of time. We pick you up at the airport, organise your accommodation in Nairobi at a hotel. Our guide will meet you there and take you to Mount Kenya by private transport where we pick up our porters and a cook.

Kilimanjaro

Many mountain walkers visiting East Africa are attracted to the highest point in Africa - Uhuru Point on Kibo (5807m) - which can be reached by several easy walking or scrambling routes. We can organise trips at any time of year for any size of group, these are based at a hotel near Moshi. We also offer several scheduled trips which combine the ascent of Kilimanjaro with that of Mt Kenya or Mt Meru and a safari in Tanzania.

Elbrus and the Caucasus

Most first time visitors to the Caucasus are keen to ascend Mount Elbrus (5642m) Europe's highest mountain. Elbrus lies just north of the main Caucasus Chain - a range almost 1000 miles long with a heavily glaciated central section containing several summits rising well above 5000m. Many of the remote side valleys are seldom visited except in summer by shepherds. Pine forests, alpine meadows, mineral springs, glacial rivers and periods of settled weather complete the picture. Our standard scheduled trip is 15 days long. The first week involves porter-supported back-packing, camping in alpine meadows crossing high passes and the ascent of a simple glaciated summit. The final few days are devoted to the ascent of Elbrus. Ice axe and crampons are required. Private trips for groups and individuals may be easily organised as we have a permanently manned base throughout the summer in the Baksan valley with our own administration, guides, support staff and doctor.

Central Asia

The republics of Tadjikisan, Kirgizstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan offer some of the best mountaineering and trekking opportunities in the world. The remoteness, variety of mountains, colourful and friendly local communities, relative ease of access and stable weather make this one of our most highly recommended destinations. Many of our trips are based on the excellent Uzbek Airlines Airbus service from London to Tashkent, others fly via Moscow to Alma Ata (BA and Transaero). Hotels in major towns are good quality offering double rooms with en-suite facilities. Outside of the towns we camp. All our trips are accompanied by a cook and a doctor. The ancient Silk Road cities of Bukhara and Samarkand are included in some of our treks, if not an extension to visit them can be organised.
